  FAQ

Q: isn't it too difficult to create artwork against such an overwhelmingly vast background and such imposing mountains?

A: this particular site has less extreme peaks and valleys, so that it is on a more human scale. this makes it much easier than you would expect. sometimes repetitions of small artworks are enough to make the final visual effect much larger. see two examples:
- stone horizon
- float horizon
for audio and poetry workshops, there are specific protected sites

Q: is working with people using different languages an obstacle to creating a joint artwork?

A: all projects are not necessarily created jointly, but in practice, joint work is usually based on a shared idea rather than a shared language. the half-hour trip from paleochora to the site gives you an opportunity to talk with 3 or 4 people in the same language, and at the site, you can exchange ideas with the others as well. english is generally used for these wider conversations.

Q: is it tough to be creative in the sun?

A: the site has an altitude of 800m and there is always a breeze, which means working conditions are very pleasant. just make sure you keep your arms and head covered to protect you from the sun.

Q: are charter flights difficult to find for that period?

A: at this stage it may well be more difficult to find charter flights if you want to go home before the end of august. most people with children have to be home in time for the first day of the new school year (1 september), so these flights are filling up. however, if you stay until the beginning of september you can find some good prices. many of our participants stay for a fortnight and spend the last 7 days exploring crete.

Q: if we want to plan a longer stay in crete, do we have to make hotel reservations in advance?

A: in aug it is necessary to make reservations in advance. but after 20 aug it is easier: you will find hotels where you can book a room straight away all over crete, ranging from 1-star hotels (category C) to category A or even luxury category. and above all, you will find 'rooms to let' everywhere. you can plan your trip as you go, according to how you feel at the time. we at levka ori.org can give you suggestions on the spot, based on our more than ten years of experience there.

Q: how can I register?

A: by using the registration form

Q: can you help us arrange shared transport from chania airport to paleochora?

A: if you arrive at the same time as other people, you could share a taxi (a taxi to paleochora costs about 85 euro for 4 passengers: travel time: 1 hour). levka ori.org can post participants' arrival times on our latest "levka ori news".
you can take the bus from the chania busstation in the centre of the city (5,80 euro p.p. / travel time about 90 minutes). you have to take a shared taxi to the busstation: 15 min)

Q: where can I find rent-a-cars ?

A: on the airport: avis, herz, and many others
from home you can make reservation with crete holidays : they come and find you on the airport chania or iraklion (e.g. hyundai accent: about 275 euro a week 5 adults)

Q: could you look for common accommodation for everyone?

A: we think that would tie people down too much. everyone has his own ideas about what accommodation he wants, and all types of accommodation are very easy to find without prior reservation during this period. paleochora is a small village with plenty of hotels and rooms to let available.
cat. B. p. p.: 30 - 40 euro ie elman
